About
ProRoo Ltd (Project Rooster) was founded by me, Richard Louks, with the vision of creating enduring structures and furniture that blend exceptional design with high-quality craftsmanship.
My background in civil, structural and mechanical engineering gives my design process and the resulting projects the integrity and quality they deserve, ensuring they are built to last.
I draw inspiration from my lifelong passions for woodworking, building and renovation, bringing decades of experience in crafting to the table to work with clients to find a design that is right for them.
From my small but fully equipped workshop in Christchurch, I use a blend of traditional and modern joinery to create strength and style.
I develop and manage all my projects with an appropriate structured process, from concept design to delivery and everything in between.

The Process
To me the first step is also the most important. Whether you have seen a previous ProRoo project or have an idea or space that you want to enhance, I always begin by taking the time to get to know each client and what they are looking for.
Once I have a good understanding of the project, I’ll use CAD software to visualise the design concept and ensure you are happy with the direction the project is heading.
After I begin work, I do as much of the heavy lifting as possible in my workshop before arranging delivery or installation in a way that works for you.
Material Choices
The impact of materials is deeply important to me, not only from the aesthetic perspective but also from an ecological one.
The new materials I use are primarily locally sourced. If possible, I use upcycled materials which can enhance the character and individuality of each design.
Although I would normally source my own materials, if you have something you would like upcycled or repurposed then I am happy to evaluate its suitability alongside the project you have in mind.
